New companies & lender requirements

Does a director need to be a homeowner for asset finance?

Not always. Homeownership is only one possible factor and does not guarantee approval. Lenders assess the complete credit proposal and their requirements differ.

The practical answer

Not always. Homeownership is only one possible factor and does not guarantee approval. Lenders assess the complete credit proposal and their requirements differ.

Tell the broker the actual position at the start so the proposal can be considered accurately. Home equity, personal guarantees and company affordability are different matters.

A personal guarantee may create personal liability irrespective of whether a director owns a home. Read the document and obtain independent advice if its effect is unclear.

Important

Commercial finance is subject to status, lender approval and the specific asset and transaction. The right structure depends on the complete circumstances of the business.

What should I do next?

Have the asset details, supplier information and an outline of what the business needs ready. DCF can then discuss the requirement and identify which lenders may be suitable.
